Afro-Peruvian folk lessons

In the present day, Lima is a melting pot of races and cultures. The Spanish presence was important but people who were brought during the conquest and colonial times, such as the Chinese and Africans are still part of this multicultural city.

The most important African legacy is our Afro-Peruvian dance and music that were born as a secret communication code among the slaves and whose rhythm is today in our blood.

In this activity, a performance will show you the perspective of these people who danced to set themselves free.

Our local guide will explain the meaning of every move to the beat of “el cajón” (the box – typical percussion instrument).  After some choreography guidelines, you are invited to try yourself!

Come, see and feel this part of our history through the Afro-Peruvian’s eyes by dancing, and why not? by playing some traditional instruments as well!

Duration: 2h

The activity includes:

  • Private guide
  • Staff of professional dancers and musicians
  • Traditional musical instruments
  • Round trip transportation
